Charlie Wilson - You Are
Are you good at taking pictures?
if you are, could you give me a few pointers? i want a new avatar pic but i take horrible pics
Yes, I'm quite good at it. My dad is an amateur photographer and had his own dark room for a while.
When photographing something, divide the picture up into 9 squares. Don't keep the primary subject solely in the center square. The photo actually looks better if it is slightly off center JUST.A.TAD.
If the camera has a zoom lens, zoom all the way in first, and focus, THEN zoom out. This way, whatever position the zoom is in, will remain in focus.
If you're trying to take a self-photo, you may use a mirror, however, make sure the mirror is clean, make sure you have good lighting, but TURN OFF THE FLASH on the camera. Use a fast shutter speed (50 or higher) Zoom in, so that the photo shows from about the chest up, and you cannot see the camera in the photo. When you take the picture, make sure you are looking at the camera's lens when you look at yourself in the mirror. (Also, if this mirror happens to be in your bathroom, make sure there's nothing embarrassing in the photo. i.e. ugly, peach-colored tile, dirty towels, bathroom fixtures, etc.)
When photographing people, some of the best pictures I've taken have been candid photos. Set the camera to a fast shutter speed, ( 50 or higher. slow shutter speeds result in blurry pictures if you're not using a tripod) Make sure it's in focus. If it's a digital camera and has a large preview screen, hold the camera in such a way that it doesn't look like you're taking pictures. Don't use the flash. Point the camera at the subject, but point your eyes somewhere else. Then discretely click the photo. They'll never know you even took it, unless it's a noisy camera, or you've used the flash.
