do i need to see top gun to watch hot shot?

just wonderin coz me an me mums boyfriend where talkin about dead funny films like airplane! an he mentioned hot shot. now i havent seen top gun so would i need to watch it to get the jokes in hot shot?

Haha. Not really. I watched Hot Shots as a little kid, and found it hilarious. it is like a spoof of top gun, but nonetheless entertaining to watch without needing to watch it
