For Directv owners....Dolby Digital?
so I was hooking my Directv box to my receiver via the optical cable and also set the box to Dolby Digital Out
Only thing is it comes out as L/R still but also the Dolby Digital Out option says Coaxial...
Am I missing something? Also what icon do I see that lets me know what programs are in Dolby Digital cause so far I haven't noticed any program in Dolby Digital, including Starz
Dolby Digital can be sent over either a digital optical connection or a digital coaxial connection. A digital coaxial connector uses an RCA cable, and looks the same as the older red/white stereo RCA connectors. The difference is that it uses a single RCA cable, and the plugs are color coded orange.
Make sure that your DirecTV receiver is set to output Dolby Digital over the optical/TOSLINK/SPDIF port instead of the coaxial one.
Also be aware that Dolby Digital can be anywhere from 1 to 5.1 channels of sound, so it's normal for a show to be in Dolby Digital 2.0 (stereo or L/R). Generally on DirecTV, DD 5.1 is reserved for HD content, but again some HD movies will still be shown in DD 2.0 instead of DD 5.1.
