Charity Motors Detroit Automotive Improvement Community Program

A Better Life Begins With Better Skills

Charity Motors® is pleased to share the creation of a new program to enhance our service to the community. We are in the process of developing a one-of-a-kind operation on Detroit's West Side that will equip members of the community with marketable, valuable skills.

It's inevitable; cars break down. Vehicles donated to the Charity Motors® car donation program sometimes need repair. To minimize maintenance and repair situations, we are introducing a new program that will benefit the buyers of our cars and the community.

Vehicles that are determined not to be scrap are used within Chartiy Motors'® car donation program. Donors can claim fair market value for tax deduction purposes. Vehicles are used in Charity Motors'® special transportation assistance program to help the underprivileged with transportation. To donate a vehicle, you may either donate online by completing our easy car donation form at http://www.charitymotors.org/donate.php or by calling 888-908-CARS.

Charity Motors® Automotive Improvement Institute program will:

  1. Provide auto repair training and state certification for at-risk people
  2. Provide affordable and more reliable transportation to low-income individuals
  3. Increase the sales value of vehicles donated to Charity Motors® through repair and reconditioning; enabling Charity Motors® to increase our charity donations
  4. Increase the amount of your tax deduction

You can give hope and help change the future. Our goal is $2.6 million to refurbish our facilities to initiate this program. By helping us to build the Automotive Improvement Institute, you'll be helping those who help others.

do I need a license to drive a motorized bicycle in san diego, california?

I'm very interested in getting something like this:

http://www.bicycle-engines.com/49cc-complete-powered-engine-p-156.html

There are other options as well, including an 80cc engine, and such.

I know that scooters, and "motorized bikes" require an M2 license in California. My question is, how many people actually get this license, and what are the chances that I'm really ever going to need it when I'm riding a bike? Would a cop really give me a ticket? Would he even know what it is? I read 1 story where a guy got pulled over on a moped and was told to wear a helmet, and that was it.

I have friends who have mopeds/scooters and don't have licenses and have been driving them for years with no problems.

Do you think I should go through the hassle of getting a license? I want to use it to ride to the beach & other local spots on an off-road bike trails and bike lanes. I know the answer is,yes, to be safe, but how many of you would actually get one?

Got this from the DMV website, no license required.

MOTORIZED BICYCLES There are two definitions of motorized bicycle (moped). A motorized bicycle is: • A two- or three-wheeled device, capable of no more than 30 mph on level ground, and equipped with:
-fully operative pedals for human propulsion. -an internal combustion engine producing less than two gross brake horsepower and an automatic transmission.
- an electric motor, with or without pedals for human propulsion. (VC §406[a])

• A vehicle with pedals and an electric motor (not more than 1,000 watts) which cannot be driven at speeds of more than 20 mph on level ground even if assisted by human power. The motor must stop when the brakes are applied or the starter switch is released. (VC §406[b]).

If you operate a motorized bicycle which meets the definition of VC §406[b], you:
• Must be 16 years of age or older
• Must wear a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet.
• Are exempt from the motor vehicle financial responsibility, driver license, and moped plate requirements. (VC §12804.9)
You may ride a moped in a bicycle lane at a reasonable speed. Be careful of bicyclists using the lane.
