Can a brand new car battery be charged fully by the alternator?
Yesterday as I was in a hurry to get into work, I left on the lights in my car. Of course, when I was off work, the battery was dead. I just bought a brand new, high quality car battery about 1-2 weeks ago because the old one was corroded and nasty. If I jump the car, by driving routinely is it possible for my alternator to charge my battery to its full capacity again? Or do I need to buy a new one? Surely not.
Thank you!
The new battery will be fine after you charge it by your alternator. To be sure, check the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) printed on the battery. Then go to AutoZone and ask them to check your cold cranking amps with a meter. They will do it for free. With the same meter they can check your alternator diodes to make sure you don't have a bad one. This will give you peace of mind that your electrical system is functioning at a high level.
