All read/write heads are connected to corresponding actuator arms at their ends. These arms are responsible for positioning read/write heads in right place to access required data. Actuator arms are in turn connected to an actuator which moves them physically.  When you start a system, hard drive begins to spin and actuator places read/write heads on different cylinders. Please help. I'm attempting to fabricate a mechanical arm. I need help interfacing a controller to the arm?

I want to control the mechanical arm with a simple easy to use joystick. The controller should be simple to interface with the actuators I will use to achieve the movement of the arm. Any ideas I would appreciate very much.

Without knowing what actuators your arm uses, I can only give you a vague answer.

If you are using stepper motors, then you will need a stepper motor controller.

If you are using servo motors, then you will need a controller designed to run the servo motors.

You can buy these controllers off-the-shelf. Hooking a joystick up is usually not hard (if it is supported by the controller you buy).
